Richard Griscom has been head of the Otto E. Albrecht Music Library and the Eugene Ormandy Music and Media Center since June 2004. As head of the music library, he is responsible for selecting books about music, sheet music, and sound recordings; providing reference service and classroom instruction; and working with individual faculty and students on their music-related needs.

Griscom is trained as a musician and has played recorder in the Penn Baroque and Recorder Ensemble since 2004. He is coauthor of The Recorder: A Research and Information Guide, which won the Music Library Association’s 2014 Duckles Award for the best book-length bibliography or other research tool in music.

Over his ten years at Penn, he has been assigned responsibilities in a number of areas outside the music library. From 2006 until 2008, he was project leader for ScholarlyCommons@Penn–the University of Pennsylvania’s institutional repository; he was interim coordinator for humanities collections from 2008 to 2009; and since August 2014, he has been acting director of collection development.
